Foreign Birth Registration (FBR)

It is possible to acquire Irish citizenship through descent from an Irish citizen by way of foreign birth registration (FBR). Where registration is being sought on the basis of having an Irish-born grandparent the applicant must produce evidence proving descent from that grandparent.

The following documentation is required:

1. Completed form FB1A or B (enclosed)

2. APPLICANT

• Original full civil birth certificate (including details of parents)

• Original civil marriage certificate (if applicable)

• Copy of current passport or identity document (if a child does not hold a current passport then a school report or letter from the school will suffice)

• Proof of address

3. PARENT

• Original civil birth certificate (including details of parents)

• Original civil marriage certificate (if not married, please provide other parent's birth certificate)

• Copy of current passpor t OR identity document, if alive, OR original death certificate

• If application relates to a minor (under 18), parent must supply proof of address

• If parent has been naturalized or obtained Foreign Birth Registration , must supply the original certificates.

4. GRANDPARENT

• Original full civil birth certificate

• Original civil marriage certificate (if applicable)

• Copy of current passport OR identity document, if alive or Original Death certificate

5. PHOTOGRAPHS

• Two from the applicant

• Two from Irish parent (if applicant is under 18)

Note: both Irish parent and the witness must sign and date the reverse side of all the photographs (if applicant is under 18)

THB 5,250(for applicants over 18)

THB 400 ( for communication fee)

Notes

• All documents must be original (and 1 photocopy of each) and where in a language other than English, must be accompanied by a certified translation.

• Certified extracts from the Register of Births, Marriages and Deaths can be obtained form:
